2016 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance
A child friendly city, the Science City of Munoz was conferred with the 2016 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance by the Council for the Welfare of Children for its commitment in promoting child rights to survival, development, protection and participation towards a Child-Friendly Philippines: A Caring and Protective Society For, By and With the Children, this was given by the Council for the Welfare of Children. The award was conferred last 12th of December 2016.
Twenty one cities participated in a contest of City Federation of Child Development Workers in DCW Assembly at SM Clark Pampanga. Among the 21 participants, the Day Care workers of the Science City of Munoz were chosen in the top 5 finalists. The zumba performance was choreographed by Mr. Jeric Santos.
Another Munozonian Darwin A. Bago was acknowledged as Top Filipino Excellence 2017 Awardee, Most Innovative Talent manager & Indie Film Producer. The award was a prestigious National Recognition on Outstanding Filipino Achiever. The award was given during the 37th People’s Choice jointly with the Top Filipino Excellence Awards on May 14, 2017 at the AFP Grand Theater, QC, Philippines.
July 4, 2017
The Philippine National Police, Department of interior and Local Government, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and other agencies organized a basketball competition for the drug reformists and those who surrendered from District II of Nueva Ecija. The different towns and cities who will compete beginning July 4 are Science City of Munoz, San Jose City, Lupao, Talugtog, Caranglan, Llanera, Rizal and Pantabangan. The opening was held at the Science City gymnasium at 9:00AM.

ZUMBA PARA SA MASA
A FREE Zumba Fitness party for all, “ZUMBA PARA SA MASA” was organized by the Local Government Unit of Science City of Munoz under the leadership of Mayor Nestor L. Alvarez last July 6, 2017 at 3:00 to 5:00 PM. The program features ZIN KRAMER of STREETBOYS and ZIN of DANCE TO LIVE. Zumba is a dance fitness program during the 1900s. It involves dance and aerobic movements performed with energetic music. It was created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez.
Retired Police Chief Superintendent Ricardo Dela Cruz Zapata Jr was introduced as the new City Administrator and the head of the Traffic Division of the Local Government Unit of Science City of Munoz. Officials from the city of Marburg, Germany, a university city in the German federal state of Hesse, visited the city for the continuation of planning on municipal climate partnership that begins in June 2016; Ms. Marion Kuhn for environment, Mr. Peter Hoenen for electricity and renewable energy and Mr. Werner Plassman for rain water retention and flod control. Science City of Munoz is a municipal climate partner of Marburg since July 2016.
Annual Tree Planting 2017
The annual tree planting activity of the Local Government Unit of the city was held last July 11, 2017 in Barangay Villa Isla. It was attended by city officials headed by Mayor Nestor L. Alvarez, Ph.D., barangay officials, local government unit employees, Mr. Ric Marpiga, ICLEI representative and visitors from Marburg, Germany who visited the city for the continuation of planning on municipal climate partnership.

“Healthy Diet Gawing Habit for Life”, the theme of the Nutrition Month program held at the City Pag-asa Gymnasium last July 14, 2017. The day started with a parade of day care workers, pupils and parents. It was attended by the City Administrator together with the RHU staff and other guests. The program ended with milk drinking and giving of other nutritious snacks from the Philippine Carabao Center.
City Development Council
Last July 13, 2017, the City Development Council convened to review and discuss programs, projects and activities of the local government unit of the city for 2018. It was attended by different officials from the University Town of Marburg, Germany, City Officials, Barangay Captains, NGOs, People Organizations, Government Organizations, Barangay Health Workers, BNS and National Government Agencies. The three special funds discussed were: 20% Development Fund which are for the priority projects; Special Educational Fund in support for educational development and the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Fund for disaster preparedness. The Municipal Climate Partnership which includes renewable energy, water retention and flood protection and climate change awareness was also tackled to be part of the Annual investment Program for 2018.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines, Cultural Exchange Department in partnership with Science City of Muñoz CCP’s Kaisa sa Sining Regional Art Center and ANDREA O. VENERACION INTERNATIONAL CHORAL FESTIVAL Manila 2017 Outreach Performances, presented the Choir of the University of Silesia “HARMONIA” of Polland with Izabella Zielecka-Panek, Choir master and the University of the Philippines Manila Chorale with Emmanuel P. de Leon Jr., conducting. The groups performed at the Muñoz National High School Annex, Science City of Muñoz on July 24, 2017. Both choral groups garnered various international and prestigious awards for their performances. The two choral groups participated in the biggest choral competition in Manila, Philippines, the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral festival that was named in honor of the late National Artist for Music Professor Andrea O. Veneracion, who founded the Philippine Madrigal Singers in 1963 at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City.
