Lantern Festival 2014
A test of creativity and resourcefulness of the citizens of Science City of Muñoz is the start of the first Lantern making contest conducted in the city, as part of the highlights in the Uhay Festival. The competition is open for all barangays and schools in the city. In-charge for the mechanics/rules of the contest was Mr. Albino Santos of Muñoz National High School. The mechanics include a strict compliance with the given pattern applicable to all entries as to size and design of the lantern. All lanterns were judged accordingly on how they would use available indigenous materials combined with the given pattern to feature the city's major industries and products.
The lanterns were presented and lighted in front of the city hall on the awarding night. The event was attended by all interested citizens to witness the different entries included in the contest.
After meticulously judging all the lanterns, the first prize was won by Barangay Mapangpang with their lantern designed with bawang, mungbean, rice seeds and other indigenous materials arranged in the prescribed pattern. Other winners of the contest were Gabaldon Integrated School-2nd and Muñoz National High School Annex-3rd place. All prizes were awarded by the city mayor, Hon. Nestor L.Alvarez, Ph.D., City Councilor Rodney S. Cabrera and over-all in charge of the contest, Mr. Albino Santos.
