Christmas Lighting Ceremony 2016
The spectacular Christmas lighting ceremony for this year was held at the city hall grounds last Nov 25, 2016. This was joined by our beloved City Mayor Hon. Nestor L. Alvarez, Ph.D. together with the city councillors, local government unit (LGU) employees, DepEd officials, guests and the public.
The program started with a prayer by Rev. Nestor “Bong” Romano and a doxology by the CLSU Maestro Singers followed by the welcome remarks of Hon. Edmond Balmeo.
The UP Filipiniana Dance Group is one of the most admired cultural performing groups in the country, showcasing the Philippine’s rich cultural heritage both in local and international venues. The group is composed of students from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. Different kinds of folk dances in the Philippines was performed; Subli-Sinala, Cordillera: Manmanok, Baliwes, Dinnuya, Muslim and Lumad: Kappa Malong Malong, Kadal Taho, Lawin Lawin, Maria Clara: La Jota Moncadena, Habanera Botolena, Panderetas, Rural: Pandanggo sa Sambalilo, Binasuan, Karatong.
Intermission numbers was given by the Student Cultural Society who performed “Pandanggo Oasioas” and the Bungkos Palay Dance Company who performed “Tinikling”
The Maestro Singers gave a special song number followed by a hip hop dance performed by the Student Cultural Society and “Manila Girl” performed by Bungkos Palay Dance Company.
Lastly the CLSU Maestro Singers performed Christmas Songs Medley. The night ended with a spectacular fireworks display. Juice and warm egg caldo was also distributed to the public.
