Science Fair in Science City of Muñoz

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Region 3 Provincial Science and Technology Center of Nueva Ecija in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Science City of Muñoz organized a Science Fair for students from Elementary and High School in Muñoz. It was held at Pag-Asa Science City Gymnasium from February 27 up to March 1, 2019. The said fair featured Science Explorer Your Ride to the Future Bus that meant to bring laboratory to these kids wherein the young scientists from U.P Diliman and U.P Los Baños teamed up to teach these students fun learning about Rice Biotechnology, Polymer, Water Shed, and Microbiology. Ms. Geraldine Subida, from the Science Education Institute under DOST helped in assisting the students in the Science Explorer Bus. The Science Fair includes Mobile Planetarium Show from Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) under DOST that aims to enlighten students about astronomy. One of the segments is the Interactive Robotics Exhibit which displayed the inventions of students from different Science Schools in the Philippines. These inventions amazed kids who were more than willing to try Remote Control Bot, Frustration Circuit and Guitar that uses sensor to detect the pitch. Mr. Jan Michael Ibanez, Special Science Teacher II assisted the kids in doing so. The main objective of this exhibit was to showcase robotics to kids and to inspire them that they too can create these inventions with curiosity and goal in mind just like their "ate" and "kuya" who created these and were students as well just like them. A Film Showing, is another activity to give students more knowledge about Stars, Biology and Philippine Inventions. Hon. Mayor Nestor L. Alvarez, Ph.D. visited the fair with his sister Ms. Armi L. Alvarez and Mr. Gerry Fulgencio. Ms. Leidi Mel Sicat, a Science Research Specialist II, from DOST PSTC-Nueva Ecija gladly explained the essence of this science fair as she escorted them. The students were accompanied by their teachers who also actively participated in the fair by taking pictures of their students who joyfully took part in every segment of the fair. Certainly, learning Science is fun!
